So I picked up a used bush hog Squealer SQ yesterday for I felt it was a steal as it was in very good shape So now I am trying to do things in reverse and find the specs on it or see an owners manual After having bought it.
Anybody have any help on this I see the BH SQ 72 which may be a newer version Anyone know where to look for this info I called BH and only got a please leave a message havent heard from them yet.
Back to top. OK for a light duty mower, but not a brush hog. Web site says they've discontinued the online manual for the squealer series. Can't say as I blame them. I had one and can say not one of my better purchases. Had shear bolt instead of slip clutch. First time out if I mowed over a heavy fescue patch, POW. If your gonna mow the yard it'll be ok. Good Luck. Just wasnt sure about the gearbox hp rating and approximate weight of this thing.
Best i can find there was an sq72 older, sq newer. And sq in the middle i guess. I have found specs for the previous two, just not for this one.
I see there are some Operators Manuals for it on Ebay. I have the next size up which is an SQForum Rules. Home Forums Reviews Articles Store.

I don't know how to think about this; is it, "great, you have a unit with a brand new axle! I've attached some pics. I wish I'd taken a far away pic from the same side as that close up but when not so close the dent on that side seems pretty similar to the one shown in pic 1.
Disturbingly, though on the phone it was all "everything works great," after talking he told me that he hasn't used it since he replaced the axle. That worries me. That seems like a major repair caused by major damage and now I have a unit that, though "fixed," is untested.
Seems to me the blades are in reasonable shape; some dents but I can get a hand grinder on that. The seller didn't say that he replaced the blades but they must be pretty tough as they don't seem to show the damage from hitting the deck. The seller ran it for me; I've never heard a bush hog running before so I have nothing to compare it to, but my first reaction was that, when on low speed, it sounded a little rough it was noisier than I'd have thought.
When he put it up to speed it sounded smooth, like a big BIG fan. Certainly turns without any obvious grinding. As another pic shows you can see that the PTO shaft doesn't reach. I'm assuming there's some extension that I can buy. I'll be calling a tractor shop today Tractor Supply were out of stock. Anyway, I'm sure that once I run it and hopefully everything is fine, I'll feel a little relief. I might be over-thinking this and the answer is, "run it; if it cuts goods, it'll probably last for years without problems.
Something that gives the tricks of successfully using this attachment? I'll be greasing the 4 nipples that I know about 2 on the PTO shaft, one on the wheel, one up by the slip clutch, I think.Forum Rules.

Bush hog hp requirements Is there a general rule for how much pto hp is needed for various sizes of bush hog type rotary mowers? I will be needing to cut tall ft grass hay, lots of blackberry bushessmall diameter saplings. Am I going to need at least 25hp, or will 18 to 20 work? Any advice is appreciated.
Re: Bush hog hp requirements The rule of thumb is 5 HP per foot of cutter. Thus a 5 foot bush hog requires 25 HP.

There are 10 kinds of people in the world, those that understand binary and those that don't. Re: Bush hog hp requirements Sometimes the type of terrain requires a larger tractor to hold a mower then the horsepower per foot but that is a good rule in general.
The type of transmission also changes the requirements a bit as a hydro gives more flexibility. Re: Bush hog hp requirements You can do it with HP. But you'll be going slow, which is a good idea if you've never cut the field before. As far as gear vs. Roy Jackson "There ain't no such thing as a free lunch Originally Posted by Deerlope.

The light duty Squealer is rated for 1" brush, but I have used it on 2" softwoods for years and it seems to have suffered no damage. If your saplings are no larger than 2" softwood pine, etc. You will save on the original cost, it will cut hay, grass, etc.Forum Rules. Home Forums Reviews Articles Store. I had no problems There are three kinds of men; 1. The ones that learn by reading 2. The few who learn by observation 3. The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence for themselves. The "Compact Tractor Bible " for what its worth states: "The power requirements is typically 2 HP per foot of cut for light-duty rotary mowing and 5 HP per foot of cut for brush hogs capable of smashing 2" diameter saplings".
I did bog down and stall the tractor on occassion going too fast but I was able to cut everything. I will state that I finally killed that RC. Common sense is the key. Re: Bush hog hp requirements Hmm. I've had to run WOT on my 8n to pull 5' cutter thru ' weeds.
This was 2nd gear inthe 5' stuff. I've found that lush thick green grass is much more of a load than tall stemmy weeds that are 2x to 3x as tall as the grass Re: Bush hog hp requirements "I've found that lush thick green grass is much more of a load than tall stemmy weeds that are 2x to 3x as tall as the grass For the poster, he is at the outer limits of what his rig can do in normal conditions.
Re: Bush hog hp requirements I have bogged down several tractors with a mower. Tall fescue with thick undergrowth as well as when mowing bermuda. Nothing is as hard to mow fast as bermuda. My 8n did not do so good on thick grass with a 5ft bush-hog squealer.Picosure vs enlighten
Had to run wide open, 1st gear and take a partial cut. The Ford diesel I replaced it with handled this cutter with ease. The n's just seemed weak thru the pto but it was equal to or better than the pulling a plow so it certainly had no problem applying the drawbar hp. Re: Bush hog hp requirements Boy I just slow down a bit Now, due to the terrain, I do go slow 2nd gear which is.Bush hog gearboxes change the drive angle from the input shaft to the cutting blades.
A typical gearbox houses gears, bearings and seals. Each of the components requires the proper amount and type of gear oil to operate for extended periods. However, this does not prevent the ability to change the oil on occasion.
A hand pump with a long plastic tube on the end will remove the old gearbox oil. Hand pumps for this purpose are available at most automotive parts houses.
They are typically used for servicing transmissions and power steering pump reservoirs on automobiles. A hand pump works nicely on a bush hog gearbox when the oil is warm.
Snake the plastic tubing into the hole to the bottom of the gearbox. Pull out on the pump handle to create suction, and draw the old oil out of the box. A bush hog with a cutting diameter of 5 feet or less can tip on its side. Tipping the deck on its side allows the oil to drain.Voxel terrain engine
Warm the oil up by either operating the bush hog or setting it in direct sunlight. Catch the oil in a bucket, and set the bush hog back down. Removing the gearbox from some models of bush hogs is not as difficult as it sounds.
Decouple the drive shaft from the input of the gear box. Remove the mounting bolts securing the box to the deck of the bush hog. A spline shaft connects the gearbox to the cutting wheel.
With the bolts removed, lift the gearbox off the bush hog deck, and turn it on its side over a bucket to drain the oil. Damon Hildebrand is a retired U. Navy veteran. He has more than 15 years within the oil and gas industry in both technical and managerial positions.Zoom api create account
